DRIVING TOWARD SUCCESS Norman Chamber of Commerce using dates in May to focus on membership growth by Kelly ARNOLD, Norman Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Marketing and Communications “The Race is On” for Chamber Volunteers to Jockey for New Members A couple of days following the famous Kentucky Derby in May, the Norman Chamber of Commerce will kick off its first ever “Membership Derby” - a membership drive that will be like none other. The Derby will be held from Tuesday, May 7, to Thursday, May 9, at the Assistance League at 809 Wall Street, Norman. For two and a half days, more than 100 volunteers will “race” against each other to sign up new Chamber members and create a greater community awareness of the important role of the Chamber of Commerce. “We appreciate each and every one of our members and look forward to strengthening the Chamber during this exciting drive,” said Scott Martin, President & CEO, Norman Chamber of Commerce. “The drive will give us the chance to share our value and grow our ranks of businesses who care deeply about Norman. The Chamber supports the efforts of our members as they create jobs and expand economic opportunities for our citizens.” The event is organized by Jimmy Cusano and a group called Your Chamber Connection. Its specialty is high energy membership campaigns that allow volunteers to conduct ‘out of the box’ membership fun while building the membership base. “It’s about business,” Cusano said. “The Chamber of Commerce is the business community. This brings everyone together to build our Chamber. It’s a membership-based organization and most people don’t like ‘membership drives.’ With a specialized event they come together in a competitive fun setting and tell the Chamber story. When others hear about everything the Chamber does, all of a sudden you have a great deal of enthusiasm for the Chamber, and a great deal of support.” “We strive each day to serve the entire Norman business community, and by growing our membership, we are better positioned to represent their interest and continue to be the voice of business in “The drive will give us the chance to share our value and grow our ranks of businesses who care deeply about Norman.
