What all do you really do in fulfilling this role? What do I really do? Geeze. That’s a loaded question. Some days it feels like I surf the web all day trying to figure out how to get more followers “organically” for the Norman Magazine Instagram account. In fact, if you’re not following it, the account username is @normanmagok. Other days I am laying out what feels like countless magazine pages, creating social media content, editing photos or toying with the magazine’s website trying to make it better. My position here at The Transcript is a unique one. I am technically in the Advertising Department, but I work closely with the Editorial Department. Rebekah knows she can usually find me in my office (right next to hers) or in the newsroom drinking coffee and carrying on conver … I mean, in the newsroom getting serious work done. Another big part of my job is trying to be at as many Norman social events as possible. And in this town, that can be difficult. But, more than likely if you’ve thrown a public party, fundraiser, gala, banquet, luncheon, art exhibit opening, festival, fashion show or ball in the last couple years, you’ve seen me there with my camera. Next time you do, say hello and I may even take your photo. What is your favorite thing about working at The Norman Transcript? It’s a tie. 1.) The people. Both those that work here and those I’ve come to know through my time here in the community. And 2.) that no two days are the same. Each day brings it’s own adventure. What was the first job you ever had? Well, cleaning horse stalls and general farm duties would be my first job, but my first job to receive a W2 was at Schlotzsky’s Deli for a year and a half. It’s amazing the amount of trust given to a 16 year old kid. What is the best and/or worst advice you’ve ever received? Best: Put the work in don’t worry about the praise.
