The Landscape framework Special Facilities
The Square of Tolerance will be urban and mineral, largely without trees.
The Street of Memory with controlled avenues of poplar and plane; the
pedestrian narrative will be cobbled, shaded with awnings;the working
village shall have orchards and a pond with ducks; the water features will
be central to the whole composition, including the cascading mountain
stream, the combined lido and ice rink. The Church, the Mosque, retail outlets, boutique hotels, managed residential
accommodation, artisanal workshops, the amphitheatre, etc. etc. will all call for
detailed separate thought and appraisal.
Armenia including Artsakh has sixteen Provinces, plus Yerevan and Stepanakert.
We can not at this stage resolve the extent to which each Province, or only some
of them, might make a contribution to the Dalma project.
Nor have we explored the extent to which historic architectures from lost lands
should be incorporated.
Nor have we finalized our understanding of the regional architectures of
Armenia, although we understand it is possible to categorize them as belonging
within three ‘stone territories’ (Tuff, Basalt and Limestone, or some combination
thereof); within an urban or rural context; and within three climatic zones.
(Mountain dry, Mountain temperate, and Lowland, though Armenia is nowhere
very low.)
These are matters for later client decision, and for later evaluation.
