Embassies of the regions The Residential edge
The main sites around the square, and along the Street of Urban
Memory are the Embassies of the Regions. We have discussed
these above. At the eastern edge, let the buildings trend towards modernity (always
in the hands of fine architects, chosen in competition).They will front
onto the pedestrian street, but with controlled vehicular access for
servicing. Round the back, along the perimeter road, there will be access
to underground parking, sufficient for the residents and visitors alike.
We shall study carefully the heights of buildings here.
The Street of urban memory
We introduce the idea of a loop-alignment around the greater part of
the site, resembling an Armenian quarter. It should be a cheerful place,
active with retail uses, lived-in, and behind the historically reconstructed
facades, let there be affordable apartments with live-work studios, and
hi-tech uses. Let it be utterly wired up and provided with the finest
infrastructures.
