4 _ CONSTITUENT ELEMENTS OF THE MASTERPLAN
Tolerance square
The Hotel and Casino complex
This is the locus of all activity and intent . It must contain a church , and maybe more than one , and this should be a faithful replica of a historic model . It also must contain a mosque , and this too should be a faithful replica of somewhere of note . ( Interestingly , the qibla direction is only a few degrees to the south of the view to Ararat .) The square is bounded by formal buildings reproduced from history or the regions . They too should be of the highest quality , but many will contain a wide variety of compatible modern uses . It will be good if they are arcaded , or jettied , and have seating outdoors with canopies , and retail stalls , to generate activity . Nearby is an indoor-outdoor amphitheater , perhaps resembling a Greek model , certainly oriented to the sunset . Associated with it will be the summer and winter Lido , a swimming pool in the summer and an ice skating rink in the winter , and a year-round concert venue , with sunbathing lawns , gardens and orchards . It contains replicas of ancient standing stones , and khashkar . The square is animated throughout the four seasons , a professional team of animateurs take care of bookings for concerts and events . Spring is apple blossom time , and for lovers ; summer is music festival time , and swimming , contests of strength , and late night revelry . Autumn , the season of mellow fruitfulness , is for gourmets and gastronomy , wine and beer ; and winter is for ice-skating , warm drinks and cozy cellar clubs . At the bottom end of the square , the southern entrance route , with its dropoff point for tourist buses and cars , is configured as if through a fortified gateway . There is a city wall to negotiate , to enter the square . Outside , are the orchards of the countryside and the artisanal village , just as they would be in life .

It stands alone , in its gardens , at the top of the hill , with walkways down to the Ethnographic village . It has shared vehicular access with the village , some way to the west of the Mall access , but it can also be accessed from the mall , by foot and for service vehicles . It is in all respects an internationalclass destination . It incorporates branded residential as well as conventional hotel keys . It has clear Ararat views , and views to the genocide needle monument . Stylistically , it should conform to the Yerevan Basalt-and Tuff vernacular , interpreted by an international-class contemporary architect , and within an equally accomplished Landscape Framework .
