NOAH_Ethnographic District Msheireb Doha, Doha, Qatar The Msheireb Heart of Doha project is not just a city-centre regeneration project but an experiment for the creation of a new contemporary architecture for a country. The project brief called for a modern and revitalized heart for the capital city, but rooted in the country’s past. Our response was to create an urbane and sophisticated city core that will be attractive to tourists and residents alike, achieved through the physical transformation of the urban form, landscape, land use and infrastructure. In addition, our design re-established the relationship between the site and the Corniche by creating eastern and western links flanking the Diwan. The intention was to reconnect the city centre to the waterfront, which has been cut off by a wide highway corridor and insensitive development. The programme for Msheireb is very mix use with city-centre living and nation-wide destinations all within the same area. The first stage of this project sought to establish a conceptual masterplan, which was followed by a detailed masterplan and design codes in the next stage.
