NOAH_Ethnographic District ARMENIA NORTH Dilijan 26 The Northern region is planned with courtyard blocks that are inspired from the cities of Ani, Van and Gyumri. The architecture is rendered in black basalt stone which is characteristic of the region ( interspersed with red sandstone and contemporary materials such as render and glass where appropriate). The Exterior facades are fairly formal, learning from Lori region, but the interior courtyard facades are informal with timber and other materials. The unique traditional architecture of Dilijan is showcased along interior streets. This main spine is occupied with restaurants and bars whilst the upper floors are homes to artists or boutique hotels. A mosque, representing Kars is located at the end of main spine. The courtyard interiors are occupied with artisan workshops, house museums or related institutions. Gyumri Lori AECOM
