h t i m S y uz ALBUQUERQUE'S OWN........................... S In the American Pop-realism tradition of Mel Ramos and Tom Wesselmann, Suzy Smith portrays idealized nudes as objects of cultural aspiration. The artist juxtaposes young models against a still life background derived from iconic Pop Art images. With tongue -in-cheek humor, Smith manages to honor her Pop predecessors while maintaining an unmistakable sense of irony, while also making a statement on our uniquely American culture. Smith lives and works in Albuquerque, NM, and she has been exhibiting since the mid 1990's. Her paintings and works on paper have been reproduced in numerous publications, and she is earning a growing amount of attention in the United States. Her public collections include the Kaiser Foundation Art Collection, the Howard Tullman Collection, as well as being in the permanent collection of the Nicolaysen Art Museum in Casper, WY. Her work is represented by Scott Richards Contemporary Art and Tangent Contemporary Art in San Francisco, CA, and Abend Gallery in Denver, CO.
