Final Notes... WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL THOSE PHOTOS? Every week on Facebook, I see hundreds of images from dozens of pairings of models and photographers... and it causes me to wonder, “What do they do with all those photos?” I know when I shoot a model at their request, their stated reason for the shoot is that it’s for their portfolio. As a photographer, from my perspective, if I agree to do a “Trade For” shoot, I am looking for something new and different I can feature in NM CliQ Magazine, send off and have published in some other magazine, or add to my stock photo offerings. Based solely on the number of submissions to NM CliQ Magazine that I receive for publication consideration, I have to believe that I am in the minority in that approach to shooting. I’m beginning to think that many of the participants in the collaborative photography genre are just in it for the fun of it. That’s NOT a bad thing, and I would be the last one to suggest that. Those who know me, know I really love to shoot!! It doesn’t matter whether it is a paid shoot, or a TF - give me a beautiful model, and my 5D Mark III, and I am in heaven. But when that part is over, I want to share those images with the world...and I’m not talking about a quickie posting on Facebook...I mean in print. Models, If you are shooting to add to your portfolio, what are you actually doing with that portfolio? Who are you showing it to? Are you using it to get paid jobs? Are those paid jobs being published? Did you know that with the photographer’s written permission, YOU can do the leg work to be sure that the best of your work is being seen, and hopefully getting published? If the photographer is too busy, or just isn’t interested, take charge of your own fate. Research and submit. Keep in mind, the worst thing that can happen is they say “No.” Photographers, if you are shooting TF, you aren’t making any money for those long hours of shooting, and editing, and if you aren’t getting your work published, you aren’t getting any recognition for the quality of your work, so what is YOUR compensation? What are you getting out of the efforts you put in? What is your Return on Investment? If you are reading this, you already have an open and welcoming venue to start with...NM CliQ Magazine. We are always looking for great photos and photo sets. Obviously, we can’t publish everything we get, but we make a concerted effort to accommodate as many artists as possible every month. So give us a try, as I said before, the worst that can happen is we say, “No.” The upside...if you had been in our first monthly issue, April of this year, you would have been viewed in that magazine alone, nearly 4,500 times.
