A team from Collaborative Photo Shoots New Mexico recently produced a photo shoot featuring the designs of Albuquerque designer Guadalupe Ramirez. Guadalupe is a first generation Mexican-American with a passion for all things fashion. He is originally from El Paso, Texas but Albuquerque has been his adopted home from 2002, when he moved here to accommodate his studies with the Fashion Design Program at Santa Fe Community College. In 2005, Guadalupe took a year of study at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in New York City, returning to New Mexico in 2006. Also in 2005, he applied for a spot on Project Runway, making it to the interview process and a meeting with Tim Gunn. In 2006, Guadalupe returned to Albuquerque with renewed vigor and bursting with the creativity that has led to three stunning collections of evening gowns, one of which is shown on these pages. Guadalupe is working on a fourth collection, several pieces from which were shown at New Mexico Fashion Week 2016, where he was a featured designer. Guadalupe’s other lines have been featured at the SFCC, Azulito, and El Farol fashion shows in Santa Fe and in Albuquerque at the Vizion Fashion Show and at the University of New Mexico’s “A Walk for Beautiful Fashion”, which was hosted to raise awareness of the gynecological issues facing women in tribal Africa. As a result of the latter show, Guadalupe developed a serious interest in issues affecting women’s health and has since joined forces with the Gynecological Cancer Awareness Project to promote activism through fashion. Guadalupe designs for “every woman” and all the gowns in this shoot were sized 8 – 10. His designs have been featured in various publications, to include profiles on the Santa Fe New Mexican and photo spreads or articles in fashion and modeling magazines such as The Bridal Guide, Nifty, and Bliss. Guadalupe hopes to premiere his latest line at a fashion show in December of this year, with details to be announced. He says his next goal is to go into production and he has already begun preliminary inquiries.
