onday morning, June 20th. Submissions for the July issue of NM CliQ Magazine had
closed about seven hours earlier. Imagine my surprise (and dismay) to open my mailbox
and find that a total of TWO photographers had submitted work to be considered for publication
in that month's issue. ONLY TWO? Admittedly, I have several photo projects that I have been
working on personally, and I can ALWAYS count on Mitch Tillison for some of his current
pieces...but TWO submissions?
In a conversation I had with Mitch Tillison later that day, I mentioned that I might have to skip
the July issue due to lack of content. In his inimitable fashion, Mitch posted an empassioned,
and incredibly poinent piece to his Facebook group, and before I knew it, I was up to my chin
in new submissions - so many I couldn't fit them into this single issue. Thanks Mitch! And
thanks to all of you who answered the call and submitted your work. If you don't see it in this
issue, it is probably due to lack of space...look for it in the August issue.
Along with the "regulars," this month you will find some incredible new shooters. I think you
will agree their work is absolutely amazing!! I hope they will decide to become some of the
magazine's "regular" submitters.
There is a new feature in this issue called "Rising Stars." In it I am spotlighting new and
upcoming talent from all the areas we address: photographers, models, HMUAs and
designers. This month features two of the area's newest teen models who are just getting
their start. If you know someone who fits into this "Rising Star" category, please nominate, or
submit them for consideration.
I am also announcing another new feature for the August issue I'm calling "Then & Now."
The concept is simple, it will show current photos of some of our gorgeous models and inset
into that image will be a photo of the same model as a "not-so-glamorous" youth, showing
just how far these beautiful people have come. I am hoping it will serve as an example to
young people that even the most beautiful of "swans" were perhaps once "ugly ducklings".
August is a new month, and although there is some content that I was unable to fit in this
edition, I will need it all over again to fill the next issue. Consider submitting your best work,
and I will do my best to get it seen by a few thousand people. Thanks!
Until next month, COLLABORATE, it makes great art!
