My name is Emily Zumwalt, I’m a 17 year old model in Abq, NM. The following subject is very close to my heart, so I request for everyone to read with an open mind. In society, body image has always been an issue. Men and women of all shapes and sizes have struggled with self-esteem caused by “body shaming”. I have personally struggled with seeing my body in a positive way, always thinking that I have to change myself to be successful in the modeling industry. As my career has slowly grown, my confidence has improved greatly. I’ve realized that the more I love myself for who I am, the happier I am and the better my pictures turn out. Body shaming can hurt anyone, whether or not you are big, small, medium, short or tall...it is all unique and gorgeous in your own way. Your body is your temple, and every flaw makes you who you are. I believe that today, body shaming is occurring less and less, but it’s still there especially in the world of modeling. Different body types speak to different people, which is why I think that you should not feel like you have to change yourself to please society, but if you feel the need to change yourself for you and your happiness, all the power to you. Know that you are who you are, and that’s just fine! Photos: NoraSue Photography NM CliQ Magazine | July 2015 21
