FROM THE EDITOR... GETTING ADVICE FROM EXPERTS I had the opportunity to attend a “Nino Batista Glamour Master Class” just recently, hosted by local photographer Peter Gonzales, and have to report I absolutely loved it! The instructor, Nino Batista, a professional glamour & exotic automobile photographer, based in Houston conducted the class with an engaging, lighthearted, casual air that made the participants feel welcome and comfortable. With that said, he left no doubt that he is a Master of the craft, and definitely knows his stuff! Dave Stabley Editor / Publisher Model: Amy Ockerman The class, while very informative was just a class…I learned some new techniques, Nino shared his insights, his workflow and even some of his Photoshop Actions with the attendees. But my personal takeaway from the event had more to do with Nino’s approach to, and philosophy of shooting and editing…practice, practice, practice. (Sound familiar to anyone?) In his own words, “Just keep doing it and doing it. Even redo the same shot over and over if you want. Practice is a MUST” While he was here, I asked Nino if he would allow me to publish an article on him and his work, and he agreed. So be sure to watch for it in an upcoming issue. I will also let you know in advance if his classes are coming to the area so that you might also take advantage of his skill and knowledge. I highly recommend them. If you have had a chance to look through the magazine, you may have noticed that I am trying something a bit different this month. I have contacted some photo industry experts and asked them to contribute small tidbits of their knowledge to enlighten some of us who are interested in their particular area of expertise. Let me just say, not all of them are anxious to participate without remuneration (they want to get paid). Others simply ignored my communications altogether...but that’s alright. I found a couple of great photographers who are open to the idea and they are represented in this issue. In coming months, I will keep reaching out, and I’m certain there will be others who want to pass some knowledge and experience along to the next generation. If any of you happen to have a personal relationship with one of these industry gurus, and would like to convince them to participate...or if YOU are one of those with in-depth knowledge of some facet of the photography, modeling, or clothing design industries and would be willing to share, I would be appreciative as would many of the magazine’s readers. Until next month...Collaborate! It makes great art! Dave Stabley Editor/Publisher NM CliQ Magazine www.nmcliq.com 6 NM CliQ Magazine | February 2016
