Long Beach gets a new lieutenant
Long Beach Township Local 373’s former treasurer and charter member George C. “Chuck” Schnell III was promoted to the
rank of Lieutenant on April 25 in a small ceremony at the regular township meeting.
The promotion was officiated by Chief Michael Bradley and
Mayor Joseph Mancini, who lauded Schnell’s service to the
people of Long Beach Township through comments made in
front of a large group of family, friends and members of the
Local.
Schnell’s promotion marks another chapter in the legacy of
the Schnell family in Long Beach Township. His grandfather
was the second officer hired by the department, and his father
was a member for 42 years serving as a patrolman and special
officer in the summers. Schnell’s father would eventually leave
law enforcement to become a teacher in the late 1960s, going
on to influence the lives of many current members of the
department as their teacher in elementary school.
Schnell will be in charge of the department’s detective and
training bureaus. d
