NEW JERSEY COPS ■ MAY 2014
It’s time to run for the Special Olympics
On May 30, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for
the Special Olympics will take off for the 31st time
in New Jersey to raise money and awareness for
the New Jersey Special Olympics. This yearly tradition has become a worldwide event.
During the past several years, the confluence of
weather, other events and a slowing economy has
brought forth a decline in funds the Torch Run has
raised, and it is time that we reverse that trend and
show that our generosity and compassion are
traits that define us as law enforcement officers.
This year we are urging members to get back to basics and start
by encouraging members of your department to participate in the
run. We can all get out and participate even if running isn’t one of
your favorite activities. The runners need support and assistance
during their time on the road and you can be a part of the Law
Enforcement Torch Run by helping in any way you see fit.
New Jersey Special Olympics has made it very easy to enroll and
raise money for the Torch Run through. If you want to register
ahead of time, just go to http://www.njtorchrun.org/. The New Jersey Special Olympics Board is working to regain prominence as the
top fundraising unit in the world, and with your help we can once
again become number one.
Listed on page 47 is information about each leg of the 2014 Torch
Run, as well as coordinators for each leg of the run and links to a
website that will allow you to send an email to them directly should
you have any questions. d
