Clifton Local 36 State Delegate Mike McLaughlin
shares his passion for the job with NJ COPS
Actually, that’s two jobs for Mike McLaughlin. One has been working for the Clifton Police Department the past
28 years, many as a detective in the narcotics division. He also has spent the past 25 years serving Local 36 and
the NJ State PBA. He personifies the term “public servant” and has some great stories to tell about both lines of

I’ve always been a very big proponent of
helping somebody, especially a business
owner in town as much as possible. The businesses in town have my cell number and
they know they can call me at three in the
morning.
So in 28 years with the department,
how many different jobs have you had?
I started in patrol division and worked there for
three years. I moved up to detective in the narcotics division, and I stayed for approximately
