Mercer County Sheriff’s Officers Local 187 Dear NJSPBA Brothers and Sisters, On Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018, we lost one of our own. Brother Pablo Santiago, who served as Mercer County Sheriff’s Officers Local 187 president, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Pablo was a great man, a loyal friend and a true leader. He gave everything he had to his job, his friends, his family and the NJ State PBA. There were very few days that went by when you would not see Pablo at a community function, family event or PBA fundraiser with his huge, contagious smile on display. The loss of Pablo has been crippling, not only to his family but to our community, department, Local and the law enforcement community in general. We would not have been able to make it through this tragic incident if it were not for the NJ State PBA, the Mercer County Conference of PBAs and, most importantly, all of you. The brothers and sisters of our great organization came through in a way that is unimaginable. I could never personally thank every person who has called, texted and helped us through this. But I will con- tinue to try. To know Pablo was to love Pablo. He was truly one of a kind, and he will be missed forever. As a tribute to Pablo, we cannot let his loss go in vain. If you want to honor Pablo, BE Pablo. Get in- volved in your community, help the less fortunate and care for one another. Be your brother’s keeper. Look out for one another, stay in touch with one another and, most importantly, ask the hard questions. With sincere thanks and gratitude, Pat Papero Pat Papero State Delegate Mercer County Sheriff’s Officers Local 187 www.njcopsmagazine.com ■ FEBRUARY 2019 51
