for soldiers
It’s certainly the most wonderful time of the year for Howell
Township Local 228, especially because the Local was able to
give back during the holiday season in a striking way.
On Dec. 7, Local 228 and the Howell Board of Education
partnered with Howell Lanes to treat a group of special needs
students to a morning of bowling and holiday cheer.
Before they began their fun in the lanes, Howell chiropractor
Renay Friedman sponsored a breakfast buffet for both mem-
bers and students. Afterward, the children were treated with a
surprise appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Members enjoyed the opportunity to assist and motivate
the children in their individual games of bowling.
Retired Corporal John Weg initiated the event 20 years ago.
Today, the annual outing is in the hands of Officer Donald
Franklin.
Local 228 is proud of Franklin and his efforts to ensure that
these children have a memorable day.
New Providence Local 132 partnered with Salt Brook Ele-
mentary School to collect 300 pounds of Halloween candy to
send to soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pictured
are members of Local 132 and students with assorted bags of
sweet treats.
