The giving spirit
in Bergenfi eld Howell Local 228 fi lls both
stomachs and hearts
In the spirit of the giving season, Bergenfield Local 309 put
together 10 Thanksgiving baskets filled with donations from
members for families in need in the community. Pictured,
from left, are members Daynel Ozorio, Andres Enriquez and
Tim Knapp. One of the best parts of the holiday season is the food. Food
has the power to gather a family around a table, where they of-
ten remember the good old days and make new memories.
Inspired by seasonal nostalgia, Howell Local 228 spent Nov. 21
at the Southard Fire Department, where members distributed
114 Thanksgiving meals to the elderly and underprivileged resi-
dents in the community.
With the help of community volunteers and several SLEOII
officers, 30 members of Local 228 distributed meals including
turkey, stuffing, potatoes and pies.
The participation by Local 228 did not go unnoticed by their
president, Detective Chris Nagy. “Each officer, a majority [of
them] on their own time, not only delivered the meals but spent
time providing
some compa-
ny to our resi-
dents.”
And with a
twist on the ad-
age, Local 228
members seem
to have discov-
ered that the
way to a com-
munity’s heart
is through its
collective stom-
ach.
