Ring the Bell:

Egypt, Jordan and Morocco have joined a global “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” partnership with stock exchanges to highlight the business case for achieving gender equality in the workplace, marketplace and community.

After the event in Egypt, the Egyptian Stock Market Exchange signed and joined the UN Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a commitment to 7 principles to ensure gender equality in the workplace.

Arts and Sports to Engage Communities:

UN Women held a series of cultural events to creatively raise awareness and engage communities.

In Jordan, UN Women launched the 4th edition of the annual Women’s Film Week in partnership with the Royal Film Commission and under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Basma Bint Talal. The festival lasted 5 days starting March 8 and featured two screenings per day. Young volunteers and social media influencers attended the screenings and recruited the audience to support the HeForShe movement.

In Palestine, a festival was organized in partnership with the British Consulate in Jerusalem to celebrate inspiring Palestinian women from all walks of life. Politicians, business women, musicians or dancers spoke about their experiences to inspire more women to fulfill their potential.

In Morocco, a soccer tournament was organized within a campaign against sexual harassment under the Safe Citiesprogramme in Marrakesh, and in partnership with the n

local NGO IMADEL. Over a 100 young men and women participated in the tournament and a female soccer team participated in the tournament and a female soccer team reached the finals.

High-level Advocacy:

In Iraq, UN Women held a high-level advocacy event in partnership with the Women Parliamentary Committee to brief the Iraqi parliament on the status of Iraqi women and the gross human rights violation against them under one of the worst humanitarian crises on the globe.
