Hundreds of men covered in camouflage cloth storm the city, firing rockets and bullets into the air. Explosions shatter windows and rip through buildings. After only a few hours, the men have taken over the city and killed and injured hundreds. The Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram is becoming a very large problem in the county of Nigeria. Their official name,"Jama’atul Ahlu Sunna Lidda’ Awati wal Jihad," translates to "The People Committed to the Prophet’s Teachings for Propagation and Jihad." They are nicknamed Boko Haram because of their mission, which is to get rid of the current Nigerian government and all of its western influences, and replace it with a traditional Islamic government. Boko Haram means "Western education is a sin." The group believes that western influences on Nigerian education, media, and values, is corrupting traditional Islamic beliefs. Boko Haram primarily attacks places they think are to westernly influenced, such as schools and United Nations headquarters. These attacks have been very successful, killing several people and injuring hundreds.
