Catalysts for change R ight now, generational change is underway on the Sunshine Coast. The region is embarking on a number of once-in-a-lifetime projects that will reaffirm the Sunshine Coast’s position as one of Australia’s leading urban and economic centres, according to Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson. “Many people do not realise that we are the 10th largest population centre in Australia. We are outperforming the majority of other regions in Queensland and indeed, most regions nationally. Recently the Sunshine Coast was ranked in the annual State of the Regions report as the second highest performing regional economy in Queensland. Project 2014 • Sunshine Coast Airport EIS released for public comment. • Maroochydore City Centre: perimeter works commence. “At the heart of this dynamic change are a number of key catalysts – game changing projects - that will shape the profile of the economy and expand career opportunities on the Sunshine Coast.” High-value industries will drive this economic growth with health, education and knowledge industries, and professional services at the forefront. Among these key catalysts is the new $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital which, coupled with the adjacent Oceanside Health precinct, represents the largest current health infrastructure investment in Australia. A new city centre is also being developed in the heart of Maroochydore.
