“Most of the simple problems in the world have been solved. We now need to
solve more complex problems and this tool increases our ability to do so.”
Professor Jason Leigh
Director of eResearch at Monash University
in Melbourne, Professor Paul Bonnington,
says, “CAVE2 allows for the viewing of data
with eye-catching clarity, and this in turn
has kick-on effects.
“When researchers see data so closely
they begin to think about it differently.
It stimulates different thinking patterns
and that is what can ultimately lead to
new ways of thinking and the eventual
emergence of new solutions.
Only humans have true creativity.”
The Engineering Learning Hub and CAVE2
will allow students at the University of the
Sunshine Coast to explore this creativity in
new dimensions.
CAVE2 is a huge investment in new ways
of teaching and learning but according to
Professor Leigh, it typifies how “younger
universities like USC are leading the way
because of their unashamed focus on future
needs.”
“This is the era of data deluge—the amount
of data generated this year alone will be
more than all the digital data generated up
until now.”
However, he adds, “The human element
in engineering is the most important part.
“Younger universities
like USC are leading the
way because of their
unashamed focus on
future needs.”
