eing prepared for hunting is as important as the actual hunt. When I go into the
woods, there are items I try to take with me.
June 8
OWU Southern Classic
The “most popular” and probably the most important is tissue paper. Uses include
marking trails, cleaning your hands, cleaning your scope lens, and wiping off the seat in your
stand. Another item is a small package of wet wipes.

Packing extra gloves, hand warmers, face warmer or scarf, and rain gear are great to have on
those cold and/or rainy days. When those “pop up” rainstorms occur, Ziploc bags are very useful
for storage. The $1.00 rain ponchos are a special favorite to keep you and your gun dry.

Note: Any additional events scheduled will update
on website.
On warm days, carry your coveralls and safety harness instead of wearing them. This will allow
for a “cooler” walk.
A small bag of candy or cookies are great to curb the unexpected munchies you might have while
spending longer time in the stand. Select ones with less aroma and wrapped in paper to reduce
the noise. If you are prone to cough, include some cough drops or your favorite chewing gum. Cancellations, date change, etc will be notified
through website.
I feel communication is very important.. I suggest some type of portable communication device
and make sure every hunter has one. Verify some type of emergency signal decided by the
group. For example, a loud whistle or emergency horn can be used to notify to others. A cell
phone can be a useful tool, however, put on silent and do not answer incoming call unless neces-
sary. Remember cell phones can lose signal; so test your coverage area. ON BEHALF OF ALL MEMBERS

Carry your calls or scents in individual zip lock bags. This will keep your call dry and those un-
pleasant scents away from all you other items.
A one-use camera will help keep those memories of a lifetime.
Always carry extra shells or cartridges. Rope or twine is important to assist in raising and lowering
your gun or bow in and out of stand. SAFETY IS CRITICAL FOLLOW ALL RULES OF TREE
STAND SAFETY!
A light source is valuable. Keep your light source as small as possible (i.e. Streamlight Stylus
light). To keep your hands free, attach it to a lanyard or a simple string around your neck

Stay away from items that make noises or have human or non-woodsy odors. A comfortable back
pack or small duffle bag are great for storage items. Good luck and good hunting! Remember
the wildlife you are hunting is a gift from God, and it is our duty to respect His marvelous work!
