When voters approved the Fit for the Future referendum in November 2017, energy quickly shifted from planning to project construction. Today, as new elementary schools in Blaine and Ramsey are sprouting out of the ground, construction improvement projects are underway at all five traditional high schools in the district. These seven projects are the start of four years of construction in Anoka-Hennepin schools, a phase one grouping of projects totalling $150 million. Projects in the Fit for the Future plan will create safe and secure learning environments by removing 62 portable classrooms across the district, construct additional schools and classroom space, provide solutions for maintaining quality schools at every building in the district, and address class sizes at all levels. Residents can keep up to date on project progress on the district website at ahschools.us/construction. n 2018 2019 Andover High School 2020 2021 Andover High School Anoka High School The majority of projects in the Fit for the Future plan are expected to be completed in two-phases over four years. The $249 million investment in district facilities will program $150 million in phase one with the remainder in the second phase. The district is providing construction management with existing staff and resources, a factor that directs voter approved funds directly to projects. Now it has become more broadly applied to other industries. With construction projects starting in all areas of our district, Anoka-Hennepin staff have taken on the mantra, vowing to work through any challenges that may be presented to deliver quality education for their students. Under normal circumstances, school construction projects would be completed over the summer months when students and staff are mostly away from school sites. These are not normal circumstances in Anoka- Hennepin. This fall, construction projects approved by voters in the Fit for the Future referendum are in full swing at Anoka, Blaine and Andover high schools and about to hit the full construction phase at continued on page 3
