F. I. R. E. M NEWSLETTER ission In Action By Sister Johnnie Stockton The annual Mt Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Palm Bay where the Dr. Quintin P. Woods Sr. is Pastor and Deacon Moses Harvin is the Summit Coordinator held its 24th Annual Summit of Seven Boys and Men Conference on June 10-12. This year’s theme for the Summit was “Finding your Gift; People Helping People.” Like previous years, the outpour of community support was tremendous and the Summit was very successful. On Friday evening, June 10th there was an icebreaker open to males and females. During the icebreaker the Buffalo Soldiers demonstrated safety tips on motor cycle riding. Some of the young ones had the opportunity to sit on the motor cycles. There were a bounce house for the children to enjoy the outside environment and release some energy. Saturday June 11th at 8 am all who attended the weekend conference was served a hearty breakfast before the workshops began. There were several workshops lead by facilitators who were very knowledgeable of their prospective areas. Some of the workshop subjects were, Legal Matters and Engineering & Robotics. There were special workshops for the adult males as well, It’s Time to be a Parent Again and College Dating. After the workshops there were a luncheon where two dynamic speakers Attorney Michael SandersRandall and Dr. Wendell Raulerson gave words of encouragement and life experiences to the youth in attendance. Mrs. Enid Roberts of the Melbourne Palm Bay Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. gave a presentation on Dressing for Success during the luncheon. Throughout the weekend conference there were several informative information tables displayed. The best part of the weekend was the prizes given from bikes to electronic devices donated by local merchants and individuals. To culminate the Summit weekend, Sunday, June 12th at 8:00 am Rev Dr. Wendell Quarter 3, 2016 Raulerson Senior Pastor of Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church in Deland FL was the speaker and Dr. Desmond Blackburn the 1st Black Brevard County Public Schools Superintendent was the 11:00 am speaker. Both speakers were very inspiring and challenged the Summit attendees to find their gifts and pass it on by helping others.
