Newsletter April Project Origin – Students from Institut Paul Bocuse commit for a better future ORIGIN is the first land expedition that will connect South America to Africa - the cradle of humanityby crossing arid areas and deserts along the way through America, Asia, Europe and Africa. An innovative project with an exceptional ambition: completing a world tour following the trails of the first human beings back to their origins. One of the main topics of this expedition will be the study of the impacts of the increasingly critical problems of desertification and loss of arable land on the issues of food security all around the globe. This French project is supported by the United Nations and by a collaboration of corporate, governmental and academic partners; in that regards, Institut Paul Bocuse recently became the referent partner of the project regarding food issues. However, ORIGIN is also an opportunity for the members of the Institut Paul Bocuse Worldwide Alliance to work together for the future of global alimentation. Indeed, given that the first leg of the journey will take place throughout most of Latin America, with the help of Institut Paul Bocuse, the ORIGIN team has already received some positive feedback regarding a collaboration in Chili with the INACAP, in Peru with the USIL, in Equator with the USFQ, in Colombia with the ISMM, in Guatemala with the ACAM and in Mexico with the ESDAI. Haaga Helia signed contract with Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences from Finland has signed a collaboration agreement with Maltese Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) for training 20 teachers from ITS. The signing gained a lot of publicity in the local media. The Tourism Minister of Malta, Mr. Edward Zammit Lewis was also present at the signing event. Vice President Jouni Ahonen signed the agreement from the part of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The training takes place in modules in Malta and partly as e-learning with the lead of experts from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The training has started on February 2016. It is designed for teachers in the Tourism field who have a wide experience from the hotel and restaurant business.
