      Spotlight             This Month’s Spotlight: Newspapers in Education            The   Telegram   &   Gazette,   in   partnership   with   Newspapers   in   Education,   now   offers  free  access  for  teachers  to  their  newspaper  via  the  NIE  eEdition.       The   eEdition   allows   you   to   navigate   an   exact   digital   replica   of   the   printed   newspaper—just   as   you   would   the   newsprint   version.     You   may   flip   through   the   pages  and  skim  headlines;  view  articles,  photos,  and  graphics  with  the  click  of  a  button;   and  even  print  out  individual  stories  and  photos  by  using  the  “clipping”  tool.    Some   of   the   benefits   of   the   eEd ition   include:   text   translation   to   twelve   languages,   an   audio   feature   that   will   read  the   article   aloud,  an  extensive  curriculum  library   for   teachers  that  covers  how  to  use  the  T&G  eEdition  with   classes,  and  more.    We  also   have  access  to  Worcester  Living  and  Business  Matters  eEditons!              In   addition   to   online   access,   the   eEdition   is   available   as   an   app   through   the   App   Store   or   Google   Play,   and   works   beautifully   when   projected.     To   that   end,   the   Library   Media   Center   now   owns   an   iPad   preloaded   with   the   T&G   NIE   app   that   teachers  may  check-­‐out  of  the  library  for  short-­‐term  use  in  classrooms.          Teachers  may  register  for  FREE  educators’  access  to  the  T&G  eEdition  by  visiting   telegram.com/nie,  then  selecting  “create  new  account”  (**The  T&G  has  requested   that  you  please  register  with  your  wrsd.net  school  email  address).    Students,  if  you   would  like  access,  please  see  Mrs.  Stern  in  the  library  for  log-­‐in  information.              For  more  information  about  special  features  and  how  to  use  the  T&G  eEdition,   please  stop  by  the  LMC.  We  hope  you  will  take  advantage  of  this  wonderful  resource!   Did you know? We  have  a  limited  number  of  copies  of  Chris  Herren’s   book,  Basketball  Junkie,  available  for  check-­‐out  in  the   Library  Media  Center,  as  well  as  a  copy  of  Fall  River   Dreams,  the  story  of  the  Durfee  High  School  basketball   team  Chris  Herren  played  on  as  a  teenager  in  Fall   River,  MA.    If  you’d  like  to  know  more  about  Chris’s   journey,  stop  by  the  library  to  check-­‐out  a  copy.   Remember! Long Block Study in the Library Media Center Upperclassmen may visit the library during their long block study periods. Each student MUST acquire a pass in the library either after school the day prior, or before first period the day of. Students visiting the library for long block will have fourth lunch, and must remain in the library up until that time. Students who request a pass and do not report to the library, or fail to notify the library staff of their intended absences prior to the start of long block, will have their study privileges revoked for the subsequent long block study.
