And, in the moving biopic “Milk” (2008), Sean Penn gives an Oscar-winning performance in his portrayal of San Francisco City Councilman Harvey Milk, who overcame prejudice (and the odds) to become the first openly gay politician elected to a major public office in the country. notably the construction of more than 500 schools in poor Black communities in the American South at a time when most minority children had virtually no access to educational opportunities. Rosenwald obviously didn’t have to do this, but he sincerely believed it was the right thing to do, and the results speak for themselves. Now that’s integrity. Being honest with ourselves may not always be easy, but, when we make the effort to do so in forming the beliefs and intents we employ to create the reality we experience, we frequently relish the outcomes.
