Prophet of Islam.

EVIL
We tend to think in terms of certain words and actions, especially those forbidden in
the second table of the Decalogue, or the lusts from which they come. But these are only the
ultimate forms in which evil expresses itself. Evil, regarded in itself, is disjunction from good
and disunion from God, and opposition to the Lord and to heaven. It is to desire to be led
by self and not by the Lord, and to deny and will to destroy all that the Lord seeks to build.
Note that evil is the opposite of truly human good, not of the Divine good; wherefore the
Lord has power over evil, although man has none of himself.
Note also that evil is not just the absence of good, as cold is the absence of heat; the
teaching is that while evil is nothing in comparison with good, it is nothing in itself. (See
Arcana Coelestia 4997, 6874; Divine Providence 279; Conjugial Love 444)
