• Korea: The Rev. Kyu D. Yang, pastor of the Seoul New Church; the
Rev. Jong Ui Lee, pastor of the New Church in Gwangju; the Rev.
Soon Che Lee, the Rev. Seoung G. Kim, the Rev. Man He Choe, and
the Rev. Yong Ho Jung – four ministers ordained last year who are
serving small groups in and around Seoul, and engaged in the important
work of translating the Writings into Korean; and Mr. Dong R. Yang, a
candidate for the priesthood who hopes to be ordained next year.
Adding greatly to the group were four ministers’ wives: Gretchen Keith,
Lydia Zhou, Theresa Jin, and Suki Un Yang; and also David Frost, who
lives and works just north of Seoul.
One of the most exciting things to take place at the meetings was the
ordination of a young man whose English name is Timothy, the first General
Church minister serving the country of China. Timothy’s story is amazing,
and exceeds the space available here.
The short version is that he learned English to be able to read True
Christian Religion, and then to study for the ministry. He and his wife, Lydia,
are educating 21 children, ages 13-17, in one of the poorest provinces of China.
If that weren’t impressive enough, they are housing, feeding, and otherwise
raising these children, gathering grants and food supplies wherever they may
be found.
Timothy and Lydia are energetic, talented, personable and very committed
to the New Church. It was a privilege for us all to witness this ordination.
