In the first of these it can mean simply a declaration of one’s faith before the Lord, but interior confession involves humiliation and the affection of good. Confession of sins is to know evils, to see them in one’s self, to acknowledge them, to make one’s self guilty, and to condemn one’s self on account of them – this as contrasted with the idea of a general confession.
