NEWS IN BRIEF
DigiPlex Heat Reuse Solution named Renewable Technology
of the Year at the 2018 Energy Awards in London
DigiPlex has won Renewable Energy Technology of the Year at
the prestigious 2018 Energy Awards, held at the London Hilton in
December 2018. DigiPlex won the award in a highly competitive
category in recognition of its work to retrofit its data centre facility
in Sweden to recapture waste heat and return it to the community.
The judging panel made particular note of the benefits DigiPlex’s
technology will provide, both in terms of energy efficiency and in
aid of corporate citizenship.
Working in partnership with Stockholm Exergi, DigiPlex’s Swedish
data centre is being adapted so that waste heat can be used to
power 10,000 homes in the area. The initiative is also the first time
an operational data centre with an indirect evaporative air-to-air
cooling solution has undertaken a retrofit on such a large scale.
“The entire team at DigiPlex is thrilled to have our work
recognised on the international stage and against competition as
strong as that we saw at the Energy Awards in London,” said Gisle
M. Eckhoff, CEO of DigiPlex. “The data centre operates at the heart
of the digital revolution and applying the highest standards of
innovative energy management is integral to our operations and
future. As part of this effort, we strongly recognise our responsibility
to turn our innovation to the benefit of our communities and reduce
energy demand wherever we can.” n

Glasgow-based Boston Networks
acquires 2020 Vision Systems
Boston Networks has completed the
acquisition of 2020 Vision Systems
as it accelerates its ambitious plans
for UK growth. The purchase of
North Shields-based 2020, for an
undisclosed sum, is the latest step
in an overall strategy to establish
Boston Networks as the UK mid-
market leader in network-enabled
smart integrated technologies to
improve the performance safety
and security of buildings, campuses
and cities. 2020 is a specialist in
IP-enabled security technology,
video surveillance, access control and
converged security solutions, and has
a strong presence in NE England and
the Midlands.
The management team at 2020,
which has grown over the last
25 years into a security provider
of choice for public and private
sector organisations in many
sectors including education, health,
local government, utilities and
transportation, will continue to
manage the business, working closely
with Boston Networks CEO Scott
McEwan and Boston’s executive
management team. The deal,
which brings the staff count of the
overall Boston Group to 170, is the
second acquisition since specialist
investment fund Aliter Capital
acquired a major stake in Boston
Networks in January this year.
Boston, established in 2000,
is an integrated technologies
specialist working across IT network
infrastructure, with a focus on
IoT, life safety, security and smart
building solutions.
Glasgow and London-based
Aliter, which has an outstanding
track record in UK support services,
is working with Boston to deliver
organic growth and to target
complementary bolt-on acquisitions.
The first of these acquisitions, in
April, was that of PEL Services Ltd.
Boston is also leading the £6m
project to build and operate
Scotland’s national IoT network. The
new network includes investment
from the Scottish Government and
will provide a wireless sensor network
for applications and services to
collect data from devices, monitoring
efficiency and productivity, lowering
costs and reducing carbon footprint.n
Mayflex, the distributor of Converged IP Solutions,
has introduced a number of new and exciting
features to its website. The Xtra online ordering
facility is a dedicated area of the website available
to both existing account holders and new
customers.
Improvements include customers being able
to order cut cable, including fibre via their Xtra
account. By answering a couple of simple questions
which specify how long they want the cable to be
and how many cuts they’d like it to have cut cable
can be ordered in this way.
An existing Mayflex customer can now create
a mayflex.com account themselves, online, rather
than waiting for the request to be processed
manually by a member of staff.
The last of these developments offer customers
an option to pay for their online purchases using
a visa, maestro or master card, offering them a
maximum spend of £2000 per transaction. Newly
registered customers to Mayflex can spend a
maximum of £500 per transaction.
Luke Carthy, Digital Manager at Mayflex
commented: “The in-house web development
team at Mayflex has been busy over the last
couple of months introducing these new features.
Each is designed to make it easier for both new
and existing customers to work with Mayflex and
make online purchases quickly and efficiently.”
Luke continued, “Our aim is to continually improve
our online purchasing experience for customers
and forms part of the wider digital strategy for the
business.” To find out more about the full range of
