How communication service providers can transform mobile backhaul networks to support the connected society
The global communications industry exists in a very disruptive environment , where crowded marketplaces and new technologies are giving rise to ever-increasing competition . The demands of the connected society and Internet of Things ( IoT ) continue to provide the impetus for innovation . So what drives this industry to continuously redefine global commerce ? And why does it take disruptive technological leaps every few years ?
The deeper we delve , the more it becomes apparent that the customer is at the core of this process . All technological advancements past , present , and future have sought to ameliorate customer experience . In recent years , a concerted focus on smartphone adoption and LTE rollouts by CSPs has enabled a surge in OTT content available to customers . This in turn has increased subscriber data usage , which is contributing to the growth of mobile data services . This growth has been so large that , according to a recent survey by StatCounter , Internet access on mobiles and tablet devices worldwide now outnumbers that from traditional desktops or laptops .
