The error of intuitive common
sense...
Increasing density in the co-location data centre
significantly impacts return on investment. Fitting
in more tenants, means more income. This logic is
incontestable and it’s understandable why many
co-location providers encourage tenants to expand
vertically and maximise their use of the available server
space.
The same intuitive common sense has been applied
to co-location data centre design and build. It’s
assumed that more cabinets produce more server
space, increased capacity and produce a greater return,
but this widespread belief and practice is wrong. To
maximise server space, less is more concerning cabinet
selection and layout.
