08 NEWS IN BRIEF Colt Data Centre Services announces the further expansion at its Paris Data Centre Colt Data Centre Services will be adding an additional 6.9 MW of capacity to its flagship data centre in Paris. The expansion is in direct response to demand from existing customers. Construction has already commenced and is due to be delivered in H1 2019. Once delivered, it will bring the total capacity built within a 24-month period at this data centre to 9.4MW. In addition to this capacity, further expansion capacity is planned within the next 18 months that will see a further 12MW of capacity added to the site, bringing the total data centre capacity to 23.9MW IT power. Due to the successful take-up (9.4MW) and planned investment in further capacity, Colt DCS’ market share will vastly increase, targeting a position in the top five providers in the market. “As we have seen in recent market reports, the Paris market is booming and there is a real demand from the international Cloud Service Providers in the market to have a presence in Paris, and our Les Ulis facility is a prime facility due to its size and location” said Detlef Spang, CEO at Colt DCS. The Paris South-West data centre provides multi-tenant colocation facilities, with state-of- the-art mechanical and engineering equipment supporting the operational delivery facility. Due to the efficiency of the design, the annualised design PUE of the facility is <1.2.. n VooServers has an eye on future growth with the launch of new head office UK infrastructure company VooServers, which has recently expanded its distribution footprint throughout the UK, Europe and the US, has rounded off another successful year with the launch of its new head office. 2018 has seen the company launch enterprise brand, Vinters and continue the expansion of data centres into international markets, including Frankfurt, Seattle and New York. The new office, located in Vinters Park, Maidstone, Kent reflects the company’s ambitious plans for growth. The new headquarters doubles the office’s capacity in terms of floor space, providing space for a growing team. VooServers, who had the opportunity to get involved with the design of the office from the early build stage, also benefit from having a number of clients and suppliers located onsite at Vinters Park. Matt Parkinson, VooServers founder and Technical Director, said: “It’s been a really exciting time to move into a new, larger head office space. We’ve had great year-on-year growth and next year is set to look even bigger so, through moving, we’ve ensured capacity for the next 3-5 years. The firm has 10 full-time staff and serves 300 active clients, supporting over 1,000 servers worldwide in more than 80 countries. Clients include Caters News Agency, AVBuyer, CITED, Countdown Solutions and the International Capital Market Association. n UK Data Centre infrastructure struggling to meet C-suite expectations Independent research released by Volta Data Centres has revealed that 56% of IT decision makers in the UK say they have experienced downtime from their data centre provider in the last six months - despite over half (53%) saying constant uptime was a top priority for their CEO. According to a new report titled ‘Data Loss and Downtime are putting Hybrid and Edge Computing Strategies at Risk’, just under half (46%) of IT decision makers reported their businesses had experienced data loss as a result of downtime, with businesses suffering from an average of 3 hours and 45 minutes of downtime over the past 12 months. The research, conducted by independent research provider Sapio Research, found that over half (57%) of IT decision makers said guaranteed uptime was important when selecting a data centre provider. Despite this being a top priority, over a quarter (27%) said they have had to make compromises on system uptime to meet budget restrictions.
