Openreach adds connectivity
options at Kao Data Campus
Kao Data has announced the installation of two fully diverse Openreach fibre
spines offering resilient data connectivity for its London ONE data centre
customers.
The Openreach EAD (Ethernet Access Direct) allows customers’ external sites
direct (point to point) connection to the data centre, delivering multiple high
bandwidth connections over a reliable fibre network, to build and extend customer
networks.
Openreach EAD supports a range of customer requirements, allowing them to
develop new infrastructure and meet low capacity backhaul requirements, up to
1Gbps. This installation provides customers with the resource to implement their
cloud computing capabilities with the knowledge that two diverse fibre routes
ensure a high degree of network reliability for critical customer applications. This
capability provides an automatic switch from the primary path to the secondary
data path activated within 50 milliseconds, as protection from unforeseen
incidents.
Jan Daan Luycks, CEO, Kao Data stated: “Our customers will choose Kao Data
because we offer carrier-neutral communications options within a state of the
art data centre providing a highly flexible, reliable and cost-effective approach
to the growing data transfer needs of business, government and academia. The
installation of the Openreach fully diverse fibre as part of our customer strategy
is an important step in that process, giving customers high speed, reliable data
transport into the customer server space.”
The fibre cable installation is terminated within the customer server hall, using
Openreach fibre and products to ensure optimised implementation and minimised
cable runs from the customer systems to the Openreach product racks. n
New Leviton fibre cables offer the highest level of Euroclass
fire protection with cleaner, easier terminations and splicing
Leviton now offers two new fibre cable options; the new universal
Central Dry Loose Tube (CDT) and Multi Dry Loose Tube (MDT)
cables have a EuroClass B2ca rating, making them ideal for building
backbone installations where protecting people in the case of fire is
a high priority.
In Europe, manufacturers cannot supply cables unless they
have been tested, certified, and marked in accordance with the
Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Leviton was one of the
manufacturers involved in developing CPR standards and provides
support and advice to specifiers, installers, and end users. The
company offers a full range of CE marked copper and fibre cabling
products that comply with CPR regulations.
“Leviton is dedicated to meeting regional CPR requirements
and providing customers with the exact solutions they need,” said
Richard Budd, Product Manager at Leviton Network Solutions. “We
continue to expand our portfolio to include higher classification
cables, and the B2ca rating provides the highest level of protection
against flame spread currently specified for datacom applications.”
The CDT and MDT cables are designed for internal/external
duct and internal cable tray installations in building and campus
backbone applications. They feature individual loose tubes with a
dry gel-free construction, allowing for easier terminations. n
