Founded in 2004, Nlyte Software is a data centre
infrastructure management (DCIM) solution provider that
supports all data centre processes across the entire ‘dock to
decom’ life cycle.
What have been the most significant industry
1 changes over the past five years?
The most significant changes to the industry have focused
around higher asset density, improved automation and
greater transparency. As the application economy has grown
in importance, and so too have the resources it consumes,
computing infrastructure managers are looking at how they
can squeeze more from resources and people while also
providing improved reporting to executive management.
This has caused many organisations to turn to software to
help reduce costs, automate processes and get more out of
every pound spent on their infrastructure.
What are the main challenges for your sector?
The next biggest challenge for the data centre
industry is to address the need for greater efficiency and
transparency within data centres. The modern data centre
has changed almost beyond recognition since its humble
beginnings 15 years ago. The use of silo specific tools,
network servers, switches, the cloud and much more are
only adding to the complexity - leaving blind spots where
performance is lacking. The industry needs to have full vision
over each and every component making up the IT estate
so that performance isn’t hindered. With this comes the
criticality of apps used to monitor performance. Decisions
need to be made about which ones are essential, which ones
need to be dropped, and which ones need to be drafted in –
everything else is just clutter.
2
Where do you see the data centre industry
heading in the future?
One of the biggest evolutions the data centre industry
will experience will be the integration of AI and machine
learning and automation. We’re already taking steps
towards a more automated data centre future with AI being
tested across a number of different tasks, and automation

taking over from human processes in data centres across the
world. As we enter 2018 we will see further integration with
these technologies leading the industry for the next century.
What will be the market drivers for the future?
Automation will be one of the biggest drivers for the
future of the data centre industry. Data centres are currently
being re-imagined to meet the changing requirements of
modern organisations, and automation is playing a big part
in this. It will take away laborious management tasks such
as cooling, power and capacity, giving facility managers
greater control over these variables and saving them time
and effort which can be reinvested into the organisation.
4
Should data centre industry companies specialise
or diversify?
Specialisms are essential in order to bring a real depth of
authority and expertise to the data centre industry – but a
specialism doesn’t need to be exclusively narrow!
5
What does the data centre of tomorrow look like?
The data centre of the future is automated. As
demand for storage increases, both for consumers and
businesses, data centres will increasingly become bigger,
faster and more powerful meaning machines will become
indispensable in carrying the extra load. Routine operations
will no longer be the burden of the operations team, giving
them more time and resources and see higher-level projects
through to completion.
6
How is Nlyte keeping abreast of current and
future industry developments?
We’re investing in research and development and focusing
on what’s truly important to our clients: Data. By making
sure data is at the heart of our work, we can work with new
models like edge computing, which will reduce complexity
and increase efficiency across the board. We’ll also be
working more closely across the telecommunications and
Fintech spaces in what are becoming challenging markets
for organisations, with unique sector and end customer
challenges. n
