Red Hat has announced the general availability of Red Hat Virtualization
4, the newest release of its Kernel based Virtual Machine (KVM) –
powered virtualisation platform.
Red Hat Virtualization 4 provides a fully open, high performance,
more secure and centralised management platform for both Linux and
Windows based workloads. It also combines a powerful hypervisor,
advanced system dashboard and centralised networking for users’
evolving workloads. Built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat
Virtualization 4 is designed to easily integrate with existing IT investments
while providing a foundation for emerging technology deployments,
including containerised and cloud native applications.

Fault finder
Huawei has launched the Cloud Fabric 5.0 solution for cloud services,
with a Huawei Fabric Insight Refined Operations and Maintenance
(O&M) Solution as its core.
The Fabric Insight Refined O&M Solution locates faults within
minutes through visualised network status measurement and
management as well as Big Data based intelligent analysis, helping
customers improve O&M efficiency and lower O&M costs.
Software defined networking (SDN) has become a common choice
for chief technology officers (CTOs) of many enterprises, as it helps
these enterprises implement fast service provisioning and improve
network resource usage. After SDN services are deployed, an originally
operated and maintained physical network is divided into three
networks: service, logical, and physical. However, traditional O&M
methods cannot monitor the status of the service and logical networks.
If an application fault occurs, the fault is difficult to locate. As a large
number of tenant services go online and change frequently, networks
are dynamically adjusted and network faults are difficult to locate
based on service configuration.
In addition, Huawei also launched its 72 x100GTb/s line cards and
the Huawei Security Solution tightly coupled into a SDN environment.

Closing the gap
LightCyber has announced new Magna products for Amazon Web Services (AWS) to close the breach detection gap in cloud and hybrid cloud data
centres. The new products provide attack visibility for Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and hybrid cloud data centre workloads. Leveraging all of
the existing behavioural profiling and anomaly detection capabilities available in the Magna platform, the new Magna Detector-AWS and Magna
Probe-AWS products support deployment within an organisation’s AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). LightCyber also announced a new version of its
agentless, on-demand Magna Pathfinder for Linux to extend integrated network and endpoint detection features to one of the most common data
centre server platforms.
The new LightCyber Magna products detect the operational activities of malicious insiders or targeted external attackers attempting to gain
control of assets hosted in an AWS cloud data centre or using it as a point for command and control (C&C) communication and eventual exfiltration
of data. Similar to an on-premise data centre, once attackers gain a foothold, they need to explore the environment through reconnaissance and
must expand their realm of control to gain access to assets using lateral movement.

Spiceworks has launched Cloud Cost Monitor, a free online tool that connects to IT
professionals’ Microsoft Azure and Amazon
Web Services accounts to analyse and report on organisations’ Infrastructure-as-a-Service
(IaaS) costs and utilised resources.
The tool’s online dashboard displays a breakdown of an organisation’s IaaS spending,
including weekly cost trends that can be delivered as an email report. This helps IT
professionals identify and address any usage anomalies before their monthly invoice arrives.
According to Spiceworks’ study, ‘Diving into IT Cloud Services’, only 25 per cent of IT
professionals believe cloud services are more cost effective than on-premises infrastructure,
potentially due to a lack of visibility in how their cloud services are being utilised and the
