ESSENTIAL SELECTION
Base jump
The contain game
Pentair has expanded its flexible aisle containment
concept. Schroff aisle containments can now be
integrated with cabinets of various designs and
heights or adapted to accommodate special structural
conditions. Using the flexible aisle containment concept,
OEM cabinets can also be integrated with ease.
The Pentair universal profile can be used to quickly
implement completely free standing aisle containments
or aisle containments consisting of only one cabinet row
and also systems of various aisle widths.
Air management, the consistent separation of cold
and warm air in the data centre, has now become the
preferred method in optimising efficiency and energy.
Furthermore, Pentair is actively involved in an IEC
standards committee focusing on the standardisation
of aisle containments. Here, focus is not only placed on
physical dimensions, but increasingly on the quality of
the separation as well.
Standardisation in this area is important for the compatibility of various products. Aisle
containments should still be designed with enough flexibility in mind so that customised
requirements can be easily implemented. The Pentair product portfolio contains standardised
Schroff aisle containment components that make it possible to easily plan and quickly implement
complete aisle containments, as well as allow flexibility for special customer requests. An example is
the 1,200mm aisle width, which is now common on the market and corresponds to the width of two
double base plates. Generally, it provides sufficient freedom of movement for installing equipment
and supplying air through the double base plates. Using the flexible Pentair aisle containment
system, the aisle width can be individually adapted: 1,400mm or 1,800mm. Aisle widths of up to
2,400mm have already been implemented in customer projects.

Lock and load
Geist has launched brand new patented U-Lock
sockets. Available as C19 and C13, they not only
offer total peace of mind that server and other rack
device cables will remain firmly locked in place, but
at a glance also make it extremely easy to identify
associated circuits, due to a range of differentiating
colour options. Users simply plug the cord into the
receptacle to lock it in place, and then gently depress
the unique bezel design to release.
Geist U-Locks are now offered as standard on the
Upgradeable rack PDU range that features: faulttolerant daisy chaining tested successfully up to 40
units, one per cent billing grade accuracy power
monitoring – independently tested in the field, and
hot-swappable intelligence, allowing PDUs to be
upgraded in situ to the latest technology while there
is absolutely no interruption to uptime.
The U-Lock offers total security such
that cables will never be accidentally
dislodged, and their bright colours
allow easy circuit identification.

Huber+Suhner has launched Ianos: a new,
future proofed fibre management system.
The new Ianos concept facilitates Base2, 8, 12 and 24 pre-terminated cable systems
for density, speed of installation, handling
and scalability, all of which are key factors in
future proofing data centres.
With future proofing of data centres
becoming nothing short of essential,
Ianos is a unique fibre management
system designed to accommodate a
quick, simple and inevitable upgrade
path from 10Gb serial to 40Gb and 100Gb
parallel optics.
By using Ianos, Huber+Suhner
customers are able to occupy as little space
as possible with passive equipment and
deploy more means of generating revenue
in their data centres. Ianos offers the
highest possible packing density without
compromising handling.
The highly scalable nature of Ianos allows
customers to ‘pay as they grow’, adding
modular components as and when they are
required. Modules of different application,
sizes and connectivity types can be mixed
and matched, while likelihood of human
error is reduced thanks to colour coding of
components and universal adaptors.

Fantastic four
Harting has launched a new
connector which incorporates
an integrated Ethernet switch.
The new US4 connector is the
first device in which switch
functionality resides directly in
the connector, making it possible
to network four EtherNet/IP or
Profinet nodes with transmission
speeds of up to 1,000Mb/s.
With this enhancement, Harting’s Han-Modular connector family lends support
to the trend toward integrated networking, enabling EtherNet/IP and Profinet based
communication to be extended over the plant management level control through to the
enterprise level.
The US4 connector module features integrated LEDs to provide quick and easy power
and network diagnostics for individual ports, displaying both the presence of the Ethernet
connection as well as ongoing data exchange and the associated speed information.
The module automatically detects the send/receive lines of connected devices and
finds the correct settings for the lines. In addition, in conjunction with the 10Base-T
and 100Base-Tx interfaces,
