Prysmian has announced the installation of its highest fibre count cable to date.
TPG, one of Australia’s leading Telcos, required the highest fibre count
cable possible, in an ultra-dense single cable solution for a particular
application. Using innovative Flextube technology, Prysmian responded,
manufacturing a cable with a capacity of 2,112 fibres.
The 2,112 fibres are contained within a single sheath 24mm in diameter,
making it the highest density optical cable solution in the world, with a
record breaking 4.7 fibres/mm², The cable was designed to be slim enough
to fit inside a 32mm subduct (with an internal diameter of just 28mm), fully
maximising the available space.
Prysmian has partnered with TPG telecom for many years and TPG was
one of the first companies in Australia to trial the Flextube product.
A 1.8km section of the 2112F cable was deployed in Melbourne central
business district (CBD) and installed within a subduct of 28mm internal
diameter. The cable was spliced at both ends using Prysmian’s latest high
capacity joint enclosures. The joints are able to store up to 2,688 fibre splices
and are modular in design, able to be scaled up and down depending on the
customer’s requirements.

One of the world’s leading games developers recently opened its
largest European office in Bucharest, Romania. The location was
chosen in accordance with the company’s technical requirements.
These featured very specific demands in the areas of networking,
power supply, HVAC, security and data centre capacity.
The main requirement was to have the entire LAN infrastructure
supporting 10Gb/s end-to-end, from backbone to users. This
requirement was key in the decision to use a Nexans Category 6A
cabling system for the entire LAN in the 10 storey building.
Each floor has approximately 750 ports and all of these are
aggregated in one room. Each room on the floor is aggregated in the
data centre using fibre optic cabling and the choice to use a Category
6A cabling solution was made on the basis of Category 6A’s maturity.
As part of a reliable, fully standardised, high performance
solution, the games company also required a partnership with a
certified installer, a full 25 year warranty, professional before and
after sales services, fast delivery, as well as proof of performance in
previously installed projects.
Some 6,500 network ports needed to be cabled in just two
months, whilst various contractors were installing electrical
power, partitions, workspaces and more. These challenging time
constraints helped all involved to come up with a highly efficient
approach that can be replicated in the games industry as well as
other areas. All parties agreed that the cooperation between the
games developer and Nexans helped the project run smoothly.
