Siemon’s state-of-the-art cabling solutions
have been installed in two of Ikea’s brand
new retail outlets in the Belgian cities of
Mons and Hasselt. The stores opened to
the public in February 2016 with Siemon
cabling technology facilitating a wide
range of applications for staff while
enhancing the visitor experience.
Over 716 million people have
visited Ikea’s stores, a figure that will
soon increase with the addition of
the Mons and Hasselt stores. Both
new build environments have been
designed to accommodate the
latest Internet protocol (IP) based
functionality throughout. Having
worked with Ikea regularly over almost
10 years, the company’s Benelux
account manager, René Proost,
was called in to suggest the most
appropriate structured cabling platform
to meet the company’s objectives.
After considering the various
options it was decided that a solution
comprising the Z-Max Category 6
unshielded copper cabling would be
implemented, supported by OM3
multimode optical fibre cabling from the
XGLO range in the backbone.
Castel UK has supplied its two-way IP audio-video
intercom to GBE Fire and Security for One Bedford
Avenue, a £33m mixed retail and office development in the
West End of London.
The project replaces a pair of redundant office blocks
and encompasses 115,000ft2 of accommodation, constructed
to the BREEAM environmental assessment rating of
‘excellent’ in the office areas and ‘very good’ in the retail
space. The site is part of general redevelopment in preparation for the anticipated completion of
Crossrail in 2018.
Castel is working in partnership with systems integrator GBE Fire and Security to install its Xellip
IP solution that will allow reception staff to see and speak with visitors prior to granting or refusing
entry. Main contractor Mace MEP required an IP intercom that would interact seamlessly with the video
management system (VMS) used for general camera surveillance, all using just a single network cable for
managing audio, video, data and station power supply (PoE).
GBE specified Castel’s CAP IP-V1B-P entry stations with integrated induction loop and vandal-proof
front panel. These are PoE devices with built-in miniature camera using H.264 compression technology.
