Choosing the right UPS service approach

For most organisations unexpected loss of power to their IT equipment would mean huge downtime costs , with loss of data , damage to reputation and a possibly terminal impact on the business . Here David Oddie , IT channel manager , Eaton UK explores the pros and cons of the most common UPS service approaches and explains how by identifying and adopting the right strategy organisations can minimise disruptions and improve business continuity .

A recent survey by TechTarget and Eaton revealed that 37 per cent of IT professionals had suffered an unplanned outage in the past 12 months , with 32 per cent saying the outages had lasted more than four hours . The cost of network downtime can average € 6,000 per hour for small businesses ( 1-100 employees ), € 66,000 per hour for medium businesses ( 100- 1,000 employees ), and more than € 1,000,000 for large businesses ( more than 1,000 employees ).
