Congratulations – Carol and Mike MacLeod, owners of Evergreen Gardens in Waterbury, Vermont, were named Retailer of the Year by the Vermont Nursery and Landscape Association (Green Works). The MacLeods have owned the business for 16 years. The full-service garden center covers a wide array of garden specialties with a strong emphasis on customer service.

Volunteers Transform Landscape at Travis Mills Foundation Veterans Retreat – Travis Mills is an inspiring quadruple amputee vet who transformed a crumbling estate in Rome, Maine into a beautiful (and free) vacation retreat for military families. Jake Pierson of Pierson Nurseries and Al Lappin Jr. of Al Lappin Landscaping led an outstanding volunteer effort by many in the industry to install the landscape at the retreat. Industry donations included money, labor, equipment, plants, trees, sod, mulch and more! In the Summer 2017 issue of MELNA’s Growing Green newsletter (page 8), Jake credits all the companies who contributed to this massive effort. Well done! America in Bloom Coming to Holliston, MA – The 2017 America in Bloom Symposium & Awards Celebration is coming to Holliston, MA October 5-7. The program will be based in Holliston and the pre-symposium educational tours will include unique horticultural showplaces in the area. In Memoriam

Robert Storry passed away on April 1, 2017 at the age of 65. Bob was a longtime NENA member and an active and involved supporter of the local green industry. He worked at Griffin Greenhouse Supply in Tewksbury, MA for more than 30 years. NENA extends its condolences to Bob’s wife Janis, and to his family, friends and colleagues.
