K-5 Mathematics Fall Newsletter: September/October 2015 Volume 2, Issue 1 Greetings from the NCDPI Elementary Mathematics Consultants, Welcome Back to School Elementary Mathematics Friends. Another year of making a difference for the students in North Carolina. We hope your school year is off to a great start. We want to share some updates about DPI elementary mathematics. Please make sure you visit the mathematics wiki: http://maccss.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/Elementary  3-5 Unpacking Documents have been revised – always look in the bottom right hand corner of the document to see if you have the latest version. You can also look at the revision table and make revisions to your already printed document.  3-5 Formative Instructional and Assessment Tasks for the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics have been compiled and can now be accessed in one document on the mathematics wiki.  5th Grade Lessons for Learning Document will include four additional volume lessons. This updated document will be posted on the mathematics wiki by the end of October.  2014-2015 K-2 Mid-Year and Summative Assessments have been revised and released. They are now posted on the math wiki.  2015-2016 K-2 Mid-Year Assessments have a new look this year. The mid-year assessment should be formative and guide classroom instruction. When scoring student work, the rubric should assist teachers in identifying student needs. Rubric proficiency levels for the mid-year are “Not Yet”, “Progressing”, and “Meets Standard”. These assessment documents now includes “Next Steps” for each task and each level of proficiency to help teachers with instructional decisions as they move students forward with mathematics thinking. District leaders will have access to 2015-2016 assessments mid-October. There will also be a webinar describing the changes and answering questions regarding K-2 Math Assessments at the beginning of November. Frequently Asked Questions 1.
