operate them.
In much of the country’s interior the
only Coast Guard aircraft are Auxiliary
facilities, owned, piloted and crewed by
Auxiliarists. It is the AuxAir squadrons
that do ice and flood patrols, keep tabs
on barge traffic and are the eyes of
the Coast Guard when those eyes are
particularly needed. When the Coast
Guard is called, often it is local Auxiliary
members who have an intimate
knowledge of the area and are first on
the scene.
So, why is this important? During the
