SCUTTLEBUTT
‘scut·tle·butt:
A drinking
fountain in the Coast Guard is
called scuttlebutt. A scuttlebutt
in old days was a cask that had
openings in the side, fitted
with a spigot. Sailors used to
congregate at the scuttlebutt
or cask of water, to gossip or
report on day’s activities.*

OPERATION LIFE RING
Supporting the
Auxiliary Family
In September 2005, following
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, your
Coast Guard Auxiliary Association
initiated Operation Life Ring to
assist Auxiliarists impacted by
those storms.
Operation Life
Ring remains a critical part of our
contingency planning to respond
to such emergencies. At the
request of National Commodore
Richard Washburn, it has been
stood up to assist our Auxiliary
families directly affected by
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
For those willing and able to
help support our shipmates
and their families victimized by
this tragedy. Please go to our
website at www.cgauxa.org/auxa/
OpLifeRing/ to make an online,
tax-deductible donation to assist
those Auxiliarists impacted.
