SCUTTLEBUTT ‘scut·tle·butt: A drinking fountain in the Coast Guard is called scuttlebutt. A scuttlebutt in old days was a cask that had openings in the side, fitted with a spigot. Operation Life Ring remains a critical part of our contingency planning to respond to such emergencies. At the request of National Commodore Richard Washburn, it has been stood up to assist our Auxiliary families directly affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
