f you are reading this, you are part of the Kiawah
Conservancy. We are a grassroots organization.
If you care about preserving and enhancing the
habitats and wildlife on Kiawah Island, you are a
vital part of a community of people who are invested in this
Island. We work to ensure that the beauty we have found here
will be here for our children and their children. We rejoice
in the wonder around us every day, but we know that with it
comes the challenge and the duty to keep it forever. Consider
volunteering and donating to keep the Legacy of Kiawah
strong and healthy. NK
Kiawah Paddling, a GPS-activated kayaking adventure
hosted on the TravelStorys mobile phone app, is the Kiawah
Conservancy’s newest self-guided tour. Launch your kayak
to explore the Kiawah River and its meandering creeks near
the Causeway Bridge, Mingo Point, and Cassique. Get tips on
finding bottlenose dolphins, a hidden eagle’s nest, secretive

Our Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden continues
to be a living laboratory on landscaping with native plants.
In October we will sponsor a program at the Sandcastle
featuring Doug Tallamy, author of Bringing Nature Home
and Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology
and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware. He will
explain why relationships between animals and native plants
are the norm in nature rather than the exception. Come learn
how to create a landscape that enhances Kiawah’s ecology!
