This Is the Kiawah Conservancy

Research takes many forms . First and foremost , it requires that we keep our eyes and ears open every day , seeing what is new , interesting , important . So if we all move around Kiawah Island with a willingness to learn and investigate all we encounter with a view to maintaining and preserving this special place , in effect we all become researchers . As an organization , the Kiawah Conservancy works every day to do exactly that . And at the end of the day we as a community of property owners , organizations , and visitors are the Conservancy ! Captain Sam ’ s Spit Here and at many sites along our 10 miles of beautiful beach the red knots pause to rest and replenish on their way from the tip of South America to the Arctic Circle where they will spend the summer breeding in the spring of each year . This year we have documented their visit on film . Director / producer Cindy Neal and her crew have captured this amazing bird and many others . Get ready to view the result in our symposium scheduled for October 2017 !
80 Kestrel Court This is the site of the Kiawah Conservancy office . Here we produce our award-winning magazine , Naturally Kiawah , plan the research that contributes to the health of the island , manage our land conservation and stewardship programs , and organize our many educational and social activities . Stop by and say hello one day .
133 Conifer Lane This is the site of our newly enhanced Maritime Forest Reserve and Nature Trail , an outdoor classroom . Informative signs along the pathway highlight plant details and provide information about the ways they have adapted to our Island and how they provide significant habitat for wildlife . This wonderful trail and recent renovations were made possible by donations from Paul and Mary Jane Roberts and the Town of Kiawah Island ’ s Charitable Giving program .
