Some rare and unusual species have been banded on
Kiawah, most notably, an ash-throated flycatcher and a
MacGillivray’s warbler, both of which are birds from the
western part of the United States. The MacGillivray’s warbler
represented the first documented siting for that species in
South Carolina.
Banding data on Kiawah has revealed that the age
structure of birds captured during fall migration is heavily
skewed toward hatch-years (young-of-the-year). O
